A group from Classical Flagstones, based in Halifax, has recently raised over £2,000 by taking part in an It’s a Knockout day for Amelie’s Fund, in aid of Elland youngster Amelie who’s affected by a rare chromosomal disorder called Russell Silver Syndrome (RSS).
The syndrome is characterised by trouble gaining weight, meaning that three year-old Amelie is very small for her age and still wears clothes aged 6-9 months. In addition to this, she has little interest in food, being fed through a tube to her stomach; limited mobility and is constantly in hospital for tests and operations.
Amelie’s parents are very keen to give their daughter as normal a life as possible, by raising funds to buy her a wheelchair, allowing her a chance to become more independent like other children of her age. For this reason, they decided to arrange an It’s a Knockout day, gaining valuable sponsorship from local residents and businesses.
Having heard about the little girl’s situation, the guys at Classical Flagstones were only too happy to help with the continuing fundraising effort. The event, which took place in Ovenden Park, Halifax, saw participants getting competitive; taking part in ridiculous activities involving races, inflatables, and plenty of soap suds! The total amount raised came to a fantastic £2005.30, which everyone was delighted with.
A satisfied, if slightly exhausted, Helen Holland commented, “I think I speak on behalf of all of us when I say we were thrilled to get involved- we had so much fun, all the while knowing we’ve helped in making Amelie’s life a little bit easier. She’s such a cheerful child despite everything she’s been through and never lets it get her down. We also want to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored us to help little Amelie get the mobility and freedom she deserves.”
